Fixer Upper Faves

I'm not gonna pretend I haven't spent 65% of my summer on my couch watching HGTV's Fixer Upper and being inspired bye every stunning house transformation I see unfold. Behind the magic is the Gaines family: Chip plays the role of the goofy contractor and sense of humor in the show's plot, and his wife Joanna plays the role of the inspiringly creative designer who has magical visions of what a completely run-down home can become.

After spending extensive time watching the show and following their work on social media, I have determined I want to be Joanna Gaines when I grow up. Her sense of style is just so unique and lovely, and she's able to put her own twist on spaces while also making each one perfect for the client she is serving. No two spaces are the same in her designs, and she is always pulling new, innovative ideas into spaces to add personalization and comfort so that the home is as perfect as it can be.

The farmhouse style is a tough one to accomplish without seeming cheap and busy, but the Gaines's pull off every transformation flawlessly, while providing an hour of pure entertainment as they warm the hearts of their viewers with their lovable personalities and adorable children. Joanna's chocolate chip cookies are often featured in the episodes as well.

Below are a few of my favorite designs I've seen in my summer of binge-watching the show. I am always amazed by the transformations Chip and Jo pull off, and if these designs inspire you, I encourage you to check out the before-and-after pictures of each design here

I can't wait to see what kinds of incredible fixer uppers this power couple takes on in season 4, and how the show continues to evolve as they become more well-known and their portfolio grows.

As Chip would say, "after y'all:"

Joanna knows how to pull off the perfect farmhouse style: with lots of natural wood, iron features, and bright, airy spaces.

Joanna always adds elements of personal charm, such as old-fashioned woodwork on the fireplace seen above, or custom-made wood furniture.

It wouldn't be a true Chip and Jo "fixer upper" without shiplap: wood boards lining the walls to add character and charm.

They often opt for open shelving, which can make a space feel busy, but Joanna is able to pull it off flawlessly.

The tiles used in the kitchen are often a stunning focal point. No tiles are the same between projects, so each fits the client's taste perfectly.

Sliding barn doors are another feature used quite frequently to complete that farmhouse look. This specific space was actually a horse barn converted into a family home.
