10 Things I'm Thankful For Right Now

1. My Family

Obligatory, but you know who you are. You are the reason I am who I am and the most important thing in my life. Without family, there would be nothing else to be thankful for, so thank you for making the rest of this list possible. After spending last Thanksgiving completely alone, I can't wait to indulge in some quality family time and let everyone know just how grateful I am to have them around.

2. My new horse

He is perfect. I always knew I wanted to do the jumpers, but just never really saw it as something that would happen. Flying around a jumper course with this dude is among the most fun things I've ever done in my life. I feel so confident with him and his loving personality just makes me fall more in love with him every day.

3. Country Music

My current country playlist is FIRE and I cannot stop listening to it or replaying the songs in my head all day long. Top of the list are Little Big Town's Better Man, Florida Georgia Line's May We All, Eli Young Band's Get In The Car and Drive, and Seth Ennis's Woke Up in Nashville. Definitely add some quality hit country songs to your Thanksgiving playlist; your family will thank you.

4. Butternut Squash

It's just everywhere and I LOVE it. Happy and Hale on 9th street in Durham has the absolute best butternut squash soup I've ever had, and I so frequently go for it they know me personally now. I recently made a dinner for my roommate and myself of farro with roasted butternut squash and pumpkin sauce, courtesy of the Fresh Market. It was divine, and tasted a lot like pumpkin risotto, minus all the additional ingredients and time required. Fall is the time to savor the best winter squash recipes, and anything I see on any menu with butternut squash will be served to me.

5. My New Apartment (and not-so-new roomie)

Gwen and I just moved off-campus into the most amazing new apartment. It's approximately 1/4 mile away from our old one, but we might as well have moved to a new planet with how nice this place is in comparison. I feel like I'm living in the ultimate luxury with my open floor plan, floor-to-ceiling windows, a huge and beautiful kitchen, working appliances, a giant tub, and CABLE. It's so beautiful I could cry. I'll never be leaving this place. Also shoutout to the homie I'm sharing it with, because college would totally suck without her. We will continue our puzzles, binge-watching Criminal Minds, and racing to the bottom of a bag of peanut butter M&Ms, but now from a new and (much) improved living space.

6. Memes

This one sounds sorta weird and random, but I love how just about every meme I see on Instagram seems to relate perfectly to my life or make me think of just a specific someone. They're so universally descriptive of all people and can truly make us relate to one another and share a good laugh. I love reading a good meme and realizing other people relate to it too, and I'm not totally crazy (only a little crazy).

7. Basketball

My life is filled with it, and always has been (even though I have no idea how to actually play the sport). Basketball is the very glue that holds the Bilas family together. The Blue Devils have a loaded bench this year and Wake Forest is off to an incredible start (shoutout to my brother for scoring 9 points on the Bahamian national team this summer!). I can't wait for such an exciting season to cheer on my two favorite teams, and to hopefully celebrate a lot of great wins!

8. Holiday Candles

I have pumpkin spice, gingerbread, and fireside-scented candles, not to mention the ones I have that aren't holiday-scented. My room always radiates holiday smells, even when the candles aren't lit, but there's just something about the glow of a candle that makes a room so much cozier. No room I live in is complete without a great candle. My favorite right now is the Ella B. Pumpkin, Ginger, and Clove. This company is Charlotte-based and has dozens of incredible scents to celebrate everything from holidays to every Charlotte neighborhood.

9. Starbucks Soy Latté

I discovered this beauty this past summer, after I got too bored of how basic the Skinny Vanilla Latté made me sound while ordering. The soymilk at Starbucks is vanilla-flavored and provides such a subtle yet authentic sweetness to its smooth and creamy texture. The sweetness blends perfectly with the espresso, making it the perfect pick-me-up to warm me up on a chilly fall morning. Plus, the new holiday cups are so cute and artsy, making trips to Starbucks even more fun. Starbucks over the holidays is one of the most joyful places, and I just love all the holiday flavors and scents swirling around the air.

10. The friends that have stuck by my side through thick and thin

Yet again, you know who you are. And thank you. I'm really not sure where I'd be without you.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and don't forget to count your blessings!!!
