Weekend in Madrid
After endless weekends of traveling I finally got a weekend to myself to enjoy the city of Madrid again! I had a lovely day yesterday, getting to try all sorts of places and things I haven't had time for lately. Sadly today is spent locked up doing homework but I thought I'd take a quick break for a blog post about the great day I had yesterday! It started as all great mornings do: with brunch. Federal cafe is a hotspot in Malasaña I had heard great things about, and it most definitely lived up. I ordered a large latte (which was indeed very large, much larger than most Spanish lattes tend to be) and a yogurt parfait with fruit and muesli. It was so sweet and the coffee was so rich and creamy. All in all a great meal and surrounded by great people. Afterwards I headed back to my neighborhood for Carmen's weekly figure drawing class, which I've missed the past 5 or so Saturdays because of travel. I was so happy to get to spend 3 hours drawing again and just relaxing. She plays such calming music while we draw and I really enjoy meeting all her eclectic artist friends. The group was bigger this time so there were lots of new faces! The relaxation continued after as I went to get a manicure and pedicure for the first time in two months. While it wasn't quite as good as the ones I get at home, which simply can't be beaten, this one came pretty close. The salon was so beautiful, with a Parisian theme (where I'm headed next weekend!) and charming accents of shades of pink and neutrals. It really gave off a lovely vibe, making me feel even more relaxed while I got my nails painted. To end the day I got dinner at an adorable cafe called Cappuccino where we drank wine and had the perfect Halloween dish: pumpkin soup. It was so rich and delicious and herds of people in scary costumes kept rollerblading past the patio as we ate! It was certainly a festive meal for the holiday and so fun to sit and chat with a friend for a while! Even though it would've been fun to have gone to Barcelona with the rest of the abroad Dukies, I'm glad I still had an enjoyable Halloween here in Madrid!
